Artist Admin Hour
Stop doing admin alone.
Black Artist Group (BAG) headquarters at 2665 Washington Blvd in St Louis
That grant application? The one you've been avoiding for three weeks? The invoice you need to send? The receipts scattered across your phone, email, and that one tote bag? Let's handle it—together.
Welcome to Artist Admin Hour — a weekly two-hour co-working session where artists, filmmakers, and cultural workers show up to get shit done, with good company and zero judgment.
This is where your to-do list meets your soft life era. Think: invoices sent, budgets updated, grant apps finished, receipts wrangled — you're coasting with a color-coded calendar and an inbox tamed.
We're not just co-working. We're co-dreaming. Co-planning. Co-slaying.
Sound Familiar?
You know that residency deadline? The one you bookmarked three weeks ago? Yeah, that one. It's not that you don't want it - you're just working 7-7, hitting the studio after, getting home exhausted, and suddenly it's been a month and the deadline passed. Again😩. Admin isn't just boring - it's costing you real opportunities. Grants. Residencies. The stuff that could actually move your practice forward. You need dedicated time with people who get it, so that those opportunities you bookmark actually become opportunities you take.
What it is and Why It Matters:
Artist Admin Hour is a weekly co-working session for artists, filmmakers, cultural stewards, and soft-life strategists to tackle the boring but essential stuff—with good company.
Because let’s be real: sometimes showing up to do admin is annoying and hard. We need a ritual to get it done—with glam, grace, and zero grind.
Whether you’re sending invoices, organizing receipts, applying for grants, or just trying to get your desktop under control—this is your space to show up and get things done.
Bring your to-do list or just bring yourself. You don’t need a plan—just presence.
And yes, get that damn residency application turned in.
Artist Admin Hour: a mini manifesto
Behind every bold vision?
A damn spreadsheet.
Behind every dreamy exhibition?
A budget that actually makes sense.
Behind every powerful project?
An artist who’s rested, focused, and knows how to follow up like a mutha effin gang boss.
Behind every solid proposal?
An artist talking to themselves, rereading that sentence for the 40th time, waiting on feedback from the group chat.
Admin is the flex
It’s the secret sauce.
This is the work that makes the work work.
Stop avoiding it. We can’t anymore.
Stop doing it alone. Cause we don’t have to.
Let’s show up and handle it—together.
Fur coat. Pajamas. Google Sheets open.
C.R.E.A.M get the money. Amen.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Every Artist Admin Hour is simple by design:
We meet on Zoom (cameras optional).
We start with a smooth check-in: What’s your vibe today? What does success look like for you? What’s gotta get done?
We work. Quietly. Together for two hours. Lo-fi beats or ambient magic in the background. Pajamas encouraged.
We close with a celebration and reflection: You showed up and got things done! We deserve a treat.
The group is small and focused, enough people to feel motivated but never overwhelming.
WHO’S IT FOR:
Artists, filmmakers, and cultural workers with a big heart and an even bigger to-do list.
You love the work, but the admin tasks have been lingering on your list for too long.
You crave structure without shame. Community without chaos. You want to feel held while you hold it down.
You need both systems , chill and ease. Dreams and deadlines. Big visions and well-labeled folders.
Picture This: Gold hoops, a fresh manicure, while paying quarterly taxes. A clipboard in one hand, champagne in the other.
You're in the right place.
WHY JOIN?
💡 For Artists, By Artists – This isn't networking — it's getting shit done together with fellow artists tackling the tasks that are easy to ignore, in a space that respects your time, energy, and goals. Especially supportive for neurodivergent folks. So that you can finally stop working in isolation and start making progress with people who actually get it.
💡 Gentle Structure = Actual Progress – Two hours of body doubling creates momentum on your terms, so that you can stop scrolling Instagram, bookmarking opportunities you never apply for, and actually check things off your list — without burnout or forcing productivity that doesn’t fit your brain.
💡 Supportive Artist Community – Meet fellow artists who aren’t messing around. No more standing awkwardly at gallery openings, trying to be seen while thinking about what you should be doing instead.
Show up here — butt in seat, list in hand — with artists doing the same, so that networking actually moves your practice forward instead of just filling your calendar.
💡 Weekly Sessions + Resources – Regular co-working time with resource-sharing, tips, and new ways to manage your practice, so that admin becomes a sustainable ritual instead of a quarterly panic attack.
💡 No More Admin Dread – Okay, I can’t promise it’ll never be dreadful — because let’s face it, we’d all rather be making. But I can promise a group of artists who are serious about their work, their visibility, and their creative community.
Here, admin is the art, so when it feels hard, you’ve got your people showing up for the same goals, on the same day, every week.
BOOM BABY!
You’ll leave lighter, clearer, and feeling like the bomb dot com because you are
You’re closer to your goals.
Btw, this is you. You are Angel, All That! Also, a fun reference to this Ricki Lake episode is here

Who Runs This Anyway
Hi, I'm Stephanie Graham — this is a photo of me working on my website
I'm an artist and cultural producer, just like you. Through my work, I create photos, films, and installations that explore subcultures, relationships, gender, and class, you can see it here. Between applying, emailing, and coordinating, I'm constantly juggling the admin side of creative life — which is precisely why I started Artist Admin Hour (and why I'll be hosting it). I need to get shit done too.
Things are always better with company. So here I am, hosting Artist Admin Hour, and I'd love to work alongside you. I'll probably have a peppermint latte in hand, maybe Real Housewives on mute in the background - it's my way of keeping us, as an arts community, accountable, organized, and, fingers crossed, even enjoying the process a little.
Very serious. Very business. 💼
A Final Note:
As I've said before, I'm an artist too. I know we're pulled in a million directions in our practice: apply, submit, invoice, email, paint, photograph, schedule, build, meetings… and that's not even counting being a friend, partner, cook, working out, looking cute… omg, it's a lot.
I'll answer emails for other people's projects all day, show up for my friends, help with their applications - but when it comes to my own admin? Suddenly I need to meal plan, do laundry and reorganize my entire studio first. I know the work that actually moves the needle forward can be tedious, annoying, and overwhelming. I wish an artist statement could be "set it and forget it," but there's always something.
I'm showing up for you, but you're also showing up for me, and that's important. I need this space as much as you do - to stop letting admin quietly sabotage our practices and start moving forward together, even on the dull or overwhelming tasks.
So… what's the one thing you've been avoiding that you'll bring with you next time?
FAQs
-
Come anyway. Seriously. Sometimes just showing up and opening your laptop is the win. You can organize your desktop, respond to one email, or just sit with us while you figure out your next move. There's no "right" task—if it's been on your list, it counts.
-
Perfect. That’s exactly what this is for. Updating your address on 47 different accounts? Deleting 2,000 emails? Renaming files? That’s the stuff that never feels urgent but always weighs on you. Bring your boring tasks—we’re here for it.
-
Only if you want to. We do a quick check-in at the start (super chill—just “what’s your vibe today?”), but you can keep it short and sweet. During work time, we’re mostly silent and focused. No forced networking, no pressure to be “on.”
-
Just Zoom and whatever you’re working on—laptop, tablet, or notebook. That’s it. We keep it simple.
-
Right now, Artist Admin Hour is focused on the live sessions. But we’re building as we go—if folks want a group chat or resource hub, we’ll make it happen based on what the community needs.
-
Absolutely. Paying personal bills, meal planning, scheduling doctor’s appointments, organizing your life—it all counts. If it’s something you’ve been avoiding, bring it.tem description
-
Yes! Body doubling (working alongside others) is one of the most effective tools for folks with ADHD, autism, and other neurodivergent experiences. The structure, accountability, and low-pressure vibe are designed with that in mind.
